Understanding the Building as a System: From Design to Use |
|
This
presentation will focus on the building envelope as a system,
and provide an overview of the most important challenge: how
to keep water out and heat in as the mechanisms that allow
water to infiltrate and heat to exfiltrate are examined. From
the design stage through to building occupancy - how are the
elements of the building envelope serving to maintain an ideal
indoor environment, reduce energy consumption, and increase
the lifecycle of the building?

An Overview of Rating Systems and the Effect the Building
Envelope has on a Green Building
|
|
Are green building
rating systems changing the mainstream practice of building
design and construction? Are they pushing us towards a culture
of sustainable buildings and are they able to meet the
challenge of climate change? What's beyond LEED® and how do
other rating systems compare? This presentation will look at
Green Building rating systems, the criteria on how the
different systems are positioned, their impact on the
professional practice and the construction industry, and how
architects should be focusing on the performance of the
building envelope as a path to energy conservation and healthy
buildings.

What Are
Your Envelope Retrofit Options, and What Will They Cost? |
This session will include
discussions and examples of why the majority of cladding
systems are considered borderline in Alberta; the types of
deterioration being observed due to poor installation of roof,
wall, window, and below-grade membrane systems.

Practical Approaches to Roofing: Green Roofing Performance &
Cost, Re-Roofing, Maintenance and Repair |
|
In every facility there are a number of components within the
structure which are considered prime with respect to
maintaining status quo in the functionality of the facility's
utilization. No one component in the entire facility receives
less attention than the roof. This presentation will provide
insight into the critical areas that need to be considered
when dealing with the design, selection and the service life
of your roof.
Key points that will be discussed in this presentation
include:
-
Roofing
Systems - Different types to suit your project
-
Common
Problems in Roofing Selection & Design
-
Solutions
-
Strategies for
Roofing Maintenance
-
Budgeting for
Roofing
-
How can
property managers and owners best deal with the responsibility
that come with having a roof?

Moisture
Management and the Building Envelope |
Moisture damage in a building can result in decay
and mould which can lead to structural damage or health issues
for tenants. How does water migrate through the building
envelope to result in such destructive consequences? Learn
how good construction practice coupled with a regular building
envelope investigation and maintenance program will
improve the long-term performance of your building envelope
and lead to cost effective maintenance solutions.
